Ir Dr Wong obtained his BEng (Hons) and MEng in 2004, and PhD in 2009, all from the Department of Electrical Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is a member of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (Electrical Discipline), and a registered electrical worker (Grade C0, H0: design and installation of high/low voltage fixed electrical installations of unlimited current capacity).
In 2001-2002, he worked with CLP Power Hong Kong Limited to handle information security, and design and implement an online generator condition monitoring system.
He joined Ove Arup and Partners Hong Kong Limited in 2009 to design electrical services of several infrastructure projects, including various ventilation buildings, emergency rescue station, stabling sidings and maintenance facilities for the Express Rail Link; Sung Wong Toi Station for Shatin to Central Link; and Sludge Treatment Facility (T∙Park) in Tsang Tsui, Tuen Mun.
In 2011, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as a teaching fellow. He was awarded the best teacher in the department in 2017 and 2018.
He was a member of the Working Group for Reviewing the Code of Practice for the Electricity (Wiring) Regulations, and a committee member of the Examination for Registration as Grade C Electrical Worker, Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, HKSAR.
As an active consultant, he completed consultancy projects ranging from the development of a smart energy monitoring system, a motorcycle competence test control system, to fault-finding of electrical products and government facilities.
He joined the Division of Science, Engineering and Health Studies in 2020 as a Lecturer, and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2023. He was a recipient of the “CPCE Outstanding Teaching Performance/Achievement Award 2023.”
His research interests include renewable energy resources, power distribution systems in buildings, electrical machines and drives, and industrial automation and control.
