Teaching and Scholarly Interests: Social Sciences
Dr Vivien Kwan obtained her Diploma in Social Work from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). She then received her Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Sciences in Social Work (Family Stream) from The University of Hong Kong. In 2017, she was conferred the Doctor of Social Work by PolyU. Her doctoral dissertation was on the oppression faced by female social workers in Hong Kong.
Dr Kwan is a registered social worker who worked in the front line for children and the youth for 15 years. She has rich experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating groups and programmes for students with special educational needs, working with children and young people with emotional and developmental problems, providing parent education, and organising volunteer work.
Before joining CPCE, Dr Kwan was a lecturer at UOW College Hong Kong/Community College of City University, teaching subjects such as social work, group work, individual work, working with young people, administrative practices, and programme management. Apart from disseminating social work knowledge to students, teaching and modelling values and attitudes of social work are of the utmost importance to her.
